Do you need a good credit score to apply for student loans?

Only answer if you live in the UK please, ie England Can you apply for a student tuition and maintainance loan if you have a bad credit history, are in debt or bankrupt? Or do the UK government not check your credit score to issue out student loans? Thanks

In US you do need a good credit score. There are student loan requests that are rejected due to bad credit.
